Welly Wishes and Raindrop Dreams
Life holds certain truths that are best taken on faith: The sun will rise again tomorrow. Despite good intentions, you will overspend on holiday shopping. And, much like what you see in the movies, dancing in the rain and snow really does lift the spirits and tug on the soul strings – but it's best done in rubber rain boots to keep the tootsies toasty.

I've been meditating on this last supposition for a few weeks now, as a brand-new pair of Kamik Ellie wellies sit by my door ready to tromp in the snowy slush that recently arrived. Lucky me, because the waterproof Kamiks are the hippest galoshes I've ever laid eyes on and are perfect attire for a snow dance: nearly knee-high in a rich and shimmery chocolate brown with burnt sienna undertones.

Best of all, the wellies are lined with a thin layer of Polartec fleece - not so dense your dogs perspire, but cozy enough to keep the clammy rubber feeling at bay if you’re wearing them sock-less to and from the yoga studio on a soggy afternoon. Almost every time I step out, I pull them on, and like my other preppy stand-bys (LL Bean boat totes, camel-colored cashmere sweaters) they go with whatever I'm wearing: tucked-in blue jeans, workout pants, or with PJs during my Sunday dash down the driveway for the paper. When it’s snowing, sleeting, or raining, I wear them to make cool patterns in snowy sidewalks, skip through muddy puddles, and whirl ‘round lampposts. Being dry and cozy has never been so soul-satisfying.
